Changes to the 2026 Entry Application Process

Starting in 2025, there will be updates to the procedures for applying to opportunity classes. Specifically, the traditional paper-based placement tests for these classes will transition to computer-based formats.

Here are the key modifications for the 2026 entry application process:

• Enhanced student engagement through computer-based testing.
• Extended application timeframe for parents and caregivers.
• Increased flexibility for scheduling placement tests according to parental preferences.
• Expedited release of outcomes to parents and caregivers.

Before the test, students will receive a test admission ticket (formerly known as a Test Authority Letter), which they must bring along to the test session.

Mathematical Reasoning:

• Tests advanced understanding of Australian Curriculum math topics.
• Challenges students with higher difficulty problem-solving questions.
• Assesses intuitive application of math concepts.
• Includes 35 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 40 minutes.

Reading Comprehension:

• Assesses the ability to infer and interpret meanings from passages such as poems, novel extracts, cartoons, and articles.
• Includes 25 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 30 minutes.

Thinking Skills:

• Evaluates problem-solving, critical, and creative thinking skills.
• Covers logical reasoning, mathematical reasoning, mathematical deduction, and spatial reasoning.
• Consists of 30 multiple-choice questions with a 30-minute time limit.

Important Dates for Applying for Entry in 2026:

• November 7, 2024, to February 21, 2025: Parents and caregivers can apply for opportunity class entry for the year 2026.
• May 2-4, 2025: Students will undergo the opportunity class placement test for entry in 2026.
• May 19, 2025: A makeup test date is scheduled for approved illness or misadventure requests.
• Term 3, 2025: Placement outcomes and offers will be communicated to parents and caregivers.
• Term 1, 2026: Students who successfully secure entry will commence attending their opportunity class.
